Introducing the mysterious LA-based music artist, Handsome Luke, whose name is inspired by Ryan Gosling’s character in the 2012 film Place Beyond The Pines. During the film, Luke gets shot after robbing a string of banks which leads to his unfortunate demise. In Handsome Luke’s cinematic new music video ‘Blood Moon’ it shows an alternate reality where Luke is still alive and still robbing banks, accompanied by the stunning Audreyana Michelle. The music video is directed by Riley Robbins and fits the hazy, brooding track which is produced by Vybe, Tito Just Music and KJ Drapeau. ‘Blood Moon’ was mixed by Erik Madrid and mastered by Mike Bozzi.

We caught up with Handsome Luke to find out more.

    Who is Handsome Luke?
I’m an artist living in LA, with a wide range of styles. I think I am more versatile than average and I think my upcoming releases will help showcase that.

Tell me about your new track and visuals for ‘Blood Moon’
‘Blood Moon’ is a one and a half song creation with visuals to match. The song felt like a movie so we made one.

How would you describe your musical style to new listeners?
I rap, I sing. I try to make good-sounding sounds lol.

What drew you to the music industry?
This is one of the most creative forms of expression that exists.

    Please explain your creative process
Lately, I have been trying to freestyle the hook and then go in and write the verses but sometimes I figure out melodies for the whole song first and then write to the melody.

What are the biggest challenges you face of being in the music industry?
Being independent is hard. The barrier to entry is high. The old guard aka the record labels still controls this.

What movie or TV series would you like ‘Blood Moon’ to be played in? Do you have a particular scene in mind?
I don’t watch TV. I’m too busy creating but any TV show would be dope as long as it’s sexy lol.

Is there a hidden meaning in any of your music?
l want people to be able to draw their own conclusions and I don’t want to give too much away just yet.

Top 5 tracks you have been listening to this summer
I’ve mainly listened to unreleased Handsome Luke. That’s an honest answer.

What’s a typical day for Handsome Luke?
Morning Tea, Exercise, Studio, Dinner with friends and family, studio, repeat.

Dream musical collaborations (dead or alive?)
This is ridiculous but ok here we go. Sade, Sting, Seal, Rolling Stones, and Notorious BIG lol.

What advice would you have for someone wanting to follow in your footsteps?
Remember to breathe. Success is in the mind first.

What are the 3 things you cannot live without?
    Italian Food, Wine, Tequila.

    Guilty pleasures?
    See above haha.

    What’s next for Handsome Luke?
Hopefully some sort of catalyst to get me wide exposure.
