As the leaves start to turn shades of auburn and red, we kiss goodbye to beer garden weather and say hello to cosy nights and icy mornings. With the change of the season comes the change of outfits – strappy dresses are now layered with turtlenecks, thick tights, and fur coats. Autumn is the time for updating and reusing your wardrobe to get the most out of your summer clothes and to add new statement pieces to jazz them up.

Let’s talk layers: the more the merrier, they’re super cosy and a great way to reuse items. Most of the summer dresses in your wardrobe will probably benefit from having a day out, just add a t-shirt or turtle neck jumper underneath or style with an oversized chunky knit jumper on top. Cute, cropped cardigans, and sweater vests add a cosy feel to pre-season clothes too. Dresses, skirts, mom jeans, flares, rompers… they all look great when layered with cosy knits.

Don’t forget your favourite Midaxi dress, it’s the new length 2020 invented; somewhere between a midi and a maxi, just above the ankle and just below the calf. These dresses are great for hiding pre-tanned, pre-shaved, or pre-about-to-scrub-off-old-tan legs: practical and comfortable too! Especially in a smock style, they’re easy to wear, flattering and you can eat all the toffee apples and comforting autumn food you like. Midaxi dresses are great with chunky boots, knee highs, and ankle boots, even platform trainers if the weather permits it. A great piece to take through to autumn and even winter – versatile and a classic style.

This year has been about puff-sleeved everything, from tops to dresses, blouses to jackets, there’s no slowing down with them. They’re cute and pretty, and give a more exciting look to a basic item. These will carry through to autumn and liven up simple mom jeans and top combo.

Autumn is a great time of year, it may get cooler but that just means exciting things are coming like Halloween and bonfire night. A great time to brush the cobwebs off your chunky jumpers and go on long walks, admiring the shades of orange and yellow in the trees.
