If so, you won’t want to miss the new HBO series The Regime, a satirical drama created by Will Tracy, the writer of “Succession.” Starring Kate Winslet and Matthias Schoenaerts, this limited series promises to deliver a captivating story of power, love, and the human condition. Here’s everything you need to know about The Regime, including how to watch it, what it’s about, who’s in it, and more.

The Regime is set in an imaginary European nation, where Chancellor Elena Vernham (Kate Winslet) rules with an iron fist. She faces various challenges as her regime begins to crumble, from political rivals to personal secrets. Alongside her is Corporal Herbert Zubak (Matthias Schoenaerts), a former soldier who becomes her loyal advisor. The series explores the relationship between Elena and Herbert, their inner conflicts, and the consequences of their actions. With a touch of dark humour, The Regime examines themes of power, love, and the human condition.

The Regime features an impressive cast of actors, led by the Oscar-winning Kate Winslet. She plays Elena Vernham, a strong and determined leader who struggles to maintain her grip on power. Matthias Schoenaerts, known for his roles in “Rust and Bone” and “The Danish Girl,” plays Herbert Zubak, a disgraced soldier who becomes Elena’s trusted confidant. Other notable cast members include Guillaume Gallienne, Andrea Riseborough, Martha Plimpton, and Hugh Grant, who play various characters in the fictional nation.

The series was primarily filmed at the picturesque Schönbrunn Palace in Vienna, Austria, with additional scenes shot in the baroque rooms of Wentworth Woodhouse, near Rotherham.

The Regime Episode One: A Memorable Start

The first episode of The Regime, titled “Memorial,” sets the stage for the series. Viewers are introduced to Elena Vernham as she prepares for Victory Day, a significant event in the fictional nation. Meanwhile, a weary Herbert Zubak arrives at the palace, where he learns about the chancellor’s strict health precautions. This premiere episode sets the tone for what promises to be an engaging and thought-provoking series.
