Nathan Evans is back with Highland Girl, a track that injects a dose of Celtic cheer into your day.

It’s a full-on ceilidh in song form, complete with fiddles that jig like leprechauns on espresso and an accordion that wheezes with a happy abandon.

Nathan Evans’ vocals are strong and clear, guiding the listener through a whirlwind romance that unfolds over a single, magical night.

The lyrics paint a picture postcard of Scottish charm: fiery hair, eyes like the sea, and a damsel who “dances with the wind.”

It’s all a bit of a “meet-cute at the Highland Games” cliche, but Evans delivers it with such wide-eyed earnestness that it’s hard not to get swept up in the euphoria.

The “la di da” post-chorus is like a sugary glaze on the song, catchy but potentially headache-inducing after a few listens.

However, the traditional instrumentation keeps things lively, and the frenetic pace ensures you won’t be dwelling on any lyrical shortcomings for long.

Highland Girl is undeniably fun; it’s the kind of song that will have you tapping your foot and yearning for a tartan kilt (not that kind of yearning, mind you).

But beneath the glossy veneer of pub-singalong potential, there’s a slight hint of a tourist trap.

It’s a celebration of Scottish culture, but perhaps a slightly sanitised version, all dramatic landscapes and fiery lasses.

Still, Highland Girl is a joyful noisemaker, perfect for a summer barbecue or a kitchen dance party.

Just don’t expect a deep exploration of the Highland soul.

This is a fling, a fleeting moment of sunshine and good vibes. And hey, who doesn’t need a bit of that in their life?

    Nathan Evans Highland Girl Lyrics

    Chorus
So we danced all night ’till the sun came up
One for the road and another for luck
I didn’t know that I fell in love
In love with my Highland girl
Hair like fire and eyes like the sea
She danced with the wind and sings like the breeze
I didn’t know but now I can see
I’m in love with my Highland girl

    Post-Chorus
    La di-di-di-di-di, la di da
    La di-di-di-di-di, la di da
    La di-di-di-di-di, la di da
I’m in love with my Highland girl
    La di-di-di-di-di, la di da
    La di-di-di-di-di, la di da
    La di-di-di-di-di, la di da
I’m in love with my Highland girl

    Verse 1
I walked to the bar and looked to my left
I tried to breathe, but you tole my breath
You turned away and played hard to get
But darling the night is young
The band started playing my favorite song
And that’s whеn I caught you singing along
Right then I knew that you werе the one
But darling, the night is young

    Chorus
So we danced all night ’till the sun came up
One for the road, and another for luck
I didn’t know that I fell in love
In love with my Highland girl

She danced with the wind and sings like the breeze
I didn’t know but now I can see
