In Funeral, Moli crafts a haunting reflection on fractured friendships and the lingering hope for reconciliation.

The track was originally penned in 2021, during a writing session in Berlin with her friend Michael Ochs.

Moli explains, “We decided to strip everything back and write something on the piano, leading to the idea of a funeral—a slightly morbid but intriguing concept about who would actually show up at your funeral. It’s a metaphor for holding on to the memory of people who were once close but have drifted apart.”

The song’s stark piano melody sets the stage for Moli’s introspective vocals, painting a poignant picture of loss and regret.

The lyrics cut deep, acting as an unflinching excavation of the rubble left when close friendships crumble.

Moli doesn’t mince words in lines like “We fell right through the cracks / We don’t talk anymore”—a heartfelt summation of that soul-crushing feeling when ties that bound start disintegrating.

But amid the sorrow, faint flickers of hope still burn. Moli’s confession of not wanting to be hated and her appeal for forgiveness feel like raw, outstretched olive branches.

Perhaps the last efforts to prevent total severance before it’s too late.

The chorus transforms into a desperate plea, Moli’s voice tinged with vulnerability as she wonders if the person who once knew her so well will even register her absence anymore or recall their history.

It’s a devastatingly relatable ache for anyone who has loved and lost a kindred spirit.

Funeral finds heartwrenchingly universal truth in the specific—this is catharsis, plain and simple.

Moli’s performance alchemizes anguish and wistfulness in equal measure, her vocals both mournful and hopeful as they tentatively reach through the drifting distance.

The minimalist piano lends wraithlike intimacy, amplifying every swell of Moli’s unguarded emotion until you feel it searing your own soul.

As Moli notes, “The song resonated deeply with me and every time I performed it on tour, the audience’s reaction confirmed its special place in my heart.” Working with producer Johannes Roemer in Vienna, they “transformed it from a simple ballad to a powerful, emotion-filled track.” Releasing it independently was “both scary and exciting” for Moli, but as she says, “It’s the music I truly want to share, without any compromises.”

Funeral captures the complexities of human relationships, and it’s a reminder that even when connections fade, the memories and emotions associated with them can linger, leaving us with a mix of regret, hope, and a desire for closure.

    Moli Funeral Lyrics

    Verse 1
We fell right through the cracks
    We don’t talk anymore
    still getting passed our past
Still trying to shut that door
I’ve never been good at saying goodbye
But maybe we should till another life

    Chorus
    Oh I
Swear I’m not that bitter but i know it’s Hard to tell
Maybe I’m just jealous even though I Wish you well

I don’t want you to hate me and I pray that you forgave me I hope that you’ll come to my funeral

    Verse 2
How did we fall so far
As close as we had been
Lost track of where you are

Who knows if we’ll meet again
    I can’t believe it’s come down this

Somethings are just too broken to fix

    Chorus
    Oh I
Swear I’m not that bitter but i know it’s Hard to tell
Maybe I’m just jealous even though I Wish you well
I don’t want you to hate me and I pray that you forgave me I hope that you’ll come to my funeral

    And I wonder
if you’ll notice when I’m gone
    Will you
think about me when you hear that song
When you’re driving down the highway hope the rain starts pouring down

Swear I’m not that bitter but i know it’s Hard to tell
Maybe I’m just jealous even though I Wish you well
I don’t want you to hate me and I pray that you forgave me I hope that you’ll come to my funeral
