Grappling with the wreckage of a shattered relationship, Jon Vinyl doesn’t so much seek closure on his new single as deconstruct the very notion.

This atmospheric R&B meditation bleeds conflicted emotion over minimalist but enveloping production, crafting a paradox that’s as hypnotic as it is unsettling.

    Jon Vinyl Closure song cover

The 23-year-old Toronto artist launches into brutally honest self-examination from the opening notes over a slow and dreamy soundscape.

“See I need closure, something you ain’t really into / Never felt like you been in tune,” he confesses, instantly upending expectations with his vulnerability.

Vinyl’s vocals juxtapose remarkably well with the unvarnished lyricism.

As Closure unfolds, Jon Vinyl continues to undermine himself at every turn, undercutting soul-baring sentiment with flashes of deflating realism and self-critique.

“We had no love, we had no trust / We had no chemistry,” he concedes over hollowed out atmospherics on the pre-chorus, stripping away romantic idealism.

Even his vocal performance reflects these dualities, veering from tender fragility to sardonic bite and back again.

    Closure is out now.

    Jon Vinyl Closure Lyrics

    Intro
I saw your show the other day
    It got me emotional
I, I know what we have is confusing, but
Time’s passed and I think we should hang out sometime

    Verse 1
See I need closure, something you ain’t really into
Never felt like you been in tune
Tried to see if we could talk it out
But like a bad plan, we fell through
That was rough, but I never blamed you
And plus, I got money now
Multiple honeys now, I’m still the same dude (Yeah)
She wanna believe I’m a terrible guy
But it’s what her friends say
If only she had an opinion and stuck with decisions
    I wouldn’t be irritated (Yeah)
Maybe then we would see eye to eye (Yeah, uh)

    Pre-Chorus
I know you’re not meant for me
We had no love, we had no trust
    We had no chemistry
We gave no fucks, we made it tough
When it didn’t need to be (Yeah)
    It didn’t need to be

    Chorus
See I don’t wanna spend a moment with you
Brace yourself, I’m tryna tell you
We don’t ever need to make this right, yeah
    I (I) don’t (Don’t) wanna spend a moment with you
Brace yourself I’m tryna tell you
We (We) don’t (Don’t) ever need to make this right (Yeah, oh)

    Verse 2
You had me in a mess (Mess)
And now I’m filled with regrets (‘Gets)
This life we live never been checkers
It’s only ever been chess (Chess)
That’s why I never got along with you
That’s why our hearts never meshed
    These days I’m upset
(These days I’m upset) Yeah, uh

    Bridge
I could have took you to Ibiza (To Ibiza), oh
That’s right, I could’ve had your neck and wrist look like a freezer (Like a freezer), oh, oh, yeah
My attitude on DND, girl, I don’t need you (I don’t need you), oh yeah
    I don’t need you
    Ooh

    Chorus
See I don’t wanna spend a moment with you
Brace yourself, I’m tryna tell you
We don’t ever need to make this right, yeah
    I (I) don’t (Don’t) wanna spend a moment with you
Brace yourself I’m tryna tell you
We (We) don’t (Don’t) ever need to make this right (Yeah, oh, ooh)

    [Outro]
    Oh yeah
