A Devilish Return to Hell’s Kitchen
“It’s not entirely unpleasant seeing you again,” drawls Vincent D’Onofrio’s Wilson Fisk in Marvel’s first full trailer for Daredevil: Born Again.
The highly anticipated Disney+ series, delayed from its original 13 January release due to the Los Angeles wildfires, finally gives fans their first proper look at Charlie Cox’s return as the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen.
Marvel’s Most Violent Disney+ Series Yet
From the opening frames, it’s crystal clear this isn’t your typical Disney+ Marvel programme.
The trailer wastes no time showcasing bone-crunching violence reminiscent of the Netflix era, with Matt Murdock delivering his signature brutal justice through Hell’s Kitchen’s criminal underworld.
A Changed Landscape
Set five years after the events of the Netflix series, Born Again finds Matt Murdock in an unexpected position.
He’s stepped away from his vigilante alter-ego, focusing on his legal practice whilst Wilson Fisk has climbed the political ladder to become Mayor of New York City.
Their inevitable collision course begins with a tense meeting that crackles with the same chemistry that made their earlier confrontations so compelling.
Fan Favourites Make Their Return
The return of beloved characters runs deeper than initial reports suggested.
Beyond Cox and D’Onofrio’s powerhouse pairing, Jon Bernthal makes his thunderous return as Frank Castle/The Punisher, whilst Wilson Bethel reprises his role as the unhinged Bullseye.
In a recent interview, Bethel shed light on the programme’s time jump: “The show doesn’t pick up the day after we last saw it. It picks up five years later. And so in theory, these are characters who have all lived five years of life and all of the twists and turns that you take in the meantime. So whether or not even those stories are necessarily on screen, there’s just that little extra bit of life in there, which I think is… as an actor, it gives you an opportunity to bring whatever your own journey has been in that time and they get sort of a little longer in the tooth.”
A Fresh Menace in Hell’s Kitchen
Perhaps most intriguing is our first glimpse of the series’ new threat – Muse, a relatively recent addition to Daredevil’s rogues gallery.
First appearing in 2016’s Daredevil #11, this artistic serial killer brings a fresh kind of menace to Hell’s Kitchen, seen briefly in the trailer wearing his signature bleeding-eye white mask.
Behind the Scenes of Daredevil: Born Again
The series marks several significant changes behind the camera as well.
Showrunner Dario Scardapane heads a creative team including directors Justin Benson, Aaron Moorhead, Michael Cuesta, and Jeffrey Nachmanoff.
They’ve crafted what appears to be Marvel’s most mature Disney+ offering yet, with Cox revealing a deliberate approach to the programme’s most anticipated confrontations.
The Devil and the King of Hell’s Kitchen “You have to be really careful when and how you bring these two people into the same room,” Cox explained about his scenes with D’Onofrio.
“We have to feel like when they meet, it is an unstoppable force meeting an immovable object. It has to feel like it could explode.”
Daredevil: Born Again: Release Details and Cast
Daredevil: Born Again premieres on Disney+ on 4 March 2025, with episodes releasing weekly.
The series features an expanded cast including Margarita Levieva, Deborah Ann Woll, Elden Henson, Zabryna Guevara, and Michael Gandolfini.
As Fisk’s campaign posters loom over Hell’s Kitchen and Matt Murdock grapples with his return to vigilantism, one thing becomes clear – the Devil’s work in Hell’s Kitchen is far from finished.
