Australian trio daste. returns with Wayside, a mesmerising track from their sophomore album dasteWORLD that perfectly captures the band’s ethereal sonic identity.

Created during an August 2023 session with producer Maxwell Byrne (1tbsp, Golden Vessel), the track emerged through spontaneous collaboration when boundaries dissolved and pressure evaporated.

The shimmering production wraps around the hypnotic chorus “Falling by the wayside,” while verses explore the power of selective disconnection.

As band member Callum MacDonald explains, “Wayside explores the complex idea of ‘ignorance is bliss’—choosing to stay present rather than engaging with toxicity that pulls you into old patterns.”

What makes Wayside distinctive is its unexpected journey to the album.

Initially overlooked, the demo resurfaced during final album preparations when the band wondered, “Why isn’t this on the album?”

Currently touring the UK and Europe through June, daste. has just wrapped up supporting Still Woozy across sold-out Australian venues.

The trio continues crafting their distinctive dreamscape where retro-tinged melodies and nostalgic textures intertwine.

Their work proves their knack for transforming emotional complexity into hypnotic alt-pop gems.

Dive into Wayside on all streaming platforms now, and catch daste. live during their UK/EU tour dates to experience the full dasteWORLD in an intimate setting before they return to headline across North America this fall.

    Daste. Wayside Lyrics

The less I know the better
    My thoughts can go wherever
    Stay inside, don’t rewind
    You can’t control the weather

    Some stones are best unturned
    Despite all I’ve heard
Try hard to bite my tongue
But I’m not the only one, so

    Falling by the wayside
Try my best to get by
Holding out for daylight if I
    Keep it all together
    Falling by the wayside
Try my best to get by
Holding out for daylight if I
    Keep it all forever
