Quaglino’s: A Glamorous, Jazzy, Fun Filled Night to Remember

Quaglino’s is an iconic drinking, dining and dancing establishment that was founded in 1929 in London’s upmarket Mayfair.  It still retains that Art Deco style which was so popular in that era, but of course with a slick, modern twist.  Once you enter the famous glass doors and see the sweeping staircase you feel as if you’re in another world which is decadent, but not ostentatious.  It is interesting to read about the history of Quaglino’s as Royalty, celebrities and many famous faces have graced it with their presence over the years.

We were invited to Quaglino’s to experience music from the Mini Big Band and from the warm, welcoming service, vibrant ambience, delicious food and memorable, uplifting music; it was a night to remember.

The fantastic thing about Quaglino’s is the size and layout so you could have a quiet business lunch or a romantic dinner in the more secluded areas or be in the midst of the action near the bar and entertainment.  There are also seating areas upstairs so you can look down and still enjoy the music.  We had a prime location downstairs in the dining area in front of the stage.
We ordered a crisp Kir Royale as a prelude to succulent lobster which was exquisite.  Quaglino’s has a vast menu to cater for all tastes whether you like a good steak, fresh seafood or vegetarian options.  There is an extensive wine and cocktail list and prices are very reasonable for this part of London.  We were still enjoying our meal when the Mini Big Band came on and they livened up the place even more with their 10 piece band and charismatic Rat Pack styled vocalist specialising in the finest modern swing, jazz and jive.  We enjoyed classics such as ‘Beyond the Sea’ by Charles Trenet, (but famously covered by Bobby Darin) and everyone danced to I ‘Can’t Take my Eyes off you’ by Frankie Valli.  They also played current songs such as ‘All about that Bass’ by Meghan Trainor.  The band were very interactive with the audience and made sure people got involved.  There is room to dance and people certainly didn’t feel shy about doing so.  There was a very positive vibe overall and it was such a fun night where any troubles you might have would cease to exist.

Service throughout the evening was attentive and we never had to wait long or feel pressured to order quickly; there was always someone on hand.  Quaglino’s is sophisticated yet comfortable so you don’t have to get too dressed up, but wouldn’t look out of place if you did.  There are live music acts 5 nights a week and on weekends there is a late license so it stays open until 3 am.  They also offer weekend ‘Q Brunch’ and ‘Q Lunch’ with features such as “bottomless bubbles.”  With Private Dining options and in such an easy to get to, but exclusive part of London, what more could you possibly want in a venue? We have already booked for next weekend.
    When are you going?

On New Years Eve three-piece jazz band Belle Noir will be performing at Quaglino’s. Find out more.
