Alessandro CiminataAlessandro Ciminata has released many standout singles over the past year including ‘Last Call’, ‘Demons’, ‘Loved Locked Out’ and ‘Flashing Lights’.

The London-based singer-songwriter, known for his aching electronica, is back with  his latest single ‘It’s You Or It’s Nothing‘, “a brilliantly rich tapestry of intimate aural bliss.“

Alessandro chats to Neon Music about his new song, London being his inspiration and more.

Tell me about your new single ‘It’s You Or It’s Nothing’
It’s my favourite song so far. I co-wrote this with Jack Gourlay (Rhodes, Paradisia). I’m so nervous and excited at the same time, I hope you like it as much as I do.

Sometimes I could be a very insecure person but at the same time I don’t like people who don’t make decisions, ‘It’s You Or It’s Nothing’ is about making that decision.

Your music is very atmospheric and quite melancholy – is there a method to your songwriting?
When it comes to production, I like a lot to keep that atmospheric vibe either if it’s with synths, guitars or vocal samples.

Then, I think my vocal tone kind of recall that vibe, it just comes out naturally really.

    Earliest musical memory?
My grandad playing piano in front of me and smiling at me whilst playing.

Who or what is inspiring you at the moment?
London is very inspiring, I love the music scene here. In terms of bands/artists, I’d say the 1975, I love their latest stuff…as well as Starling, The Paper Kites, Bruce Springsteen, a lot of artists lately!

How much has your life changed since the release of your debut single ‘Last Call’?
What has changed for real since then, it’s me.
I feel like I’m finally ready to take my music to the next level. I’m feeling active and exciting.

Never wait for someone else to approve your project. Work hard, find your way and do it! That’s what I’ve learned since ‘Last call’’.

Favourite venue to perform and why?
Omeara, without any doubt! I played there when I supported Dustin Tebbutt last year and I absolutely loved it, great sound, great atmosphere and a great crowd too!

    Your favourite rising artist is…?
Starling. In 2 years time, she will be huge.

If you weren’t in music what else would you be doing?
Football. I’d probably be a football coach. I love football haha.

Which song do you wish you had written and why?
‘Slow dancing in a burning room’ by John Mayer. It’s just incredible.

Who would play you in a film and why?
Adam Sandler. Because is my favourite actor!

    Do you collect anything?
No really. I used to collect minerals when I was a kid though!

What would fans be surprised to learn about you?
Mmm, I don’t know… maybe that I used to work in Starbucks when I first moved to London.

    What’s next?
Releasing lots of new music. Starting now, then another single in October and another one in November…. you’ll have enough of me! haha Well…hopefully not! 😀

Thanks so much for chatting with you Lucy! It’s been fun! I wish you all the best!

Listen to ‘It’s You Or It’s Nothing‘.
