Inspiration can strike in the most everyday and mundane moments. For Aleks Grey, it was a late-night dog walk that birthed his latest single, Please come home.

Passing by an apartment building, Grey spotted a lone blue light in a sea of darkness – likely from a phone screen.

This simple image conjured a poignant scenario: the aftermath of a lovers’ quarrel, one person gone, the other left alone in the shadows.

And from this fleeting observation, a song was born.

Grey’s Please come home is stripped back and minimalist allowing the emotion to seep through.

The track opens with tender, finger-picked acoustics that immediately set an intimate tone.

There’s a vulnerability in Grey’s raw vocals that draws you in, you almost feel as if you are eavesdropping on a private moment of reflection.

The gentle melody weaves through the verses, building to a chorus that’s both rousing and heart-breaking.

It’s in this chorus where the song’s emotional weight hits home. Grey’s plea of “Please come home” rings out with a desperation that’s hard to ignore.

The strength of Please come home lies in its relatability. Grey’s lyrics paint a vivid picture of that sick, hollow feeling after an argument:

“My phone light up my bedroom walls
And I can’t sleep, cause we haven’t talked for hours
    You left me on hold”

Who hasn’t experienced that anxious wait for a text or call, hoping to mend things?

Grey captures this universal experience with a raw honesty that’s bound to relate to listeners.

While the stripped-back nature of the track might not appeal to those looking for more produced sounds, it’s this very simplicity that allows Grey’s songwriting to shine.

Aleks Grey – Please come home Lyrics

My phone light up my bedroom walls
And I can’t sleep, cause we haven’t talked for hours
    You left me on hold
We said some things, we said to much
We let it burn, but we couldn’t stop the fire
    But left us cold

Don’t you know that all I need is you
To hold me close like you do
    Our house feels cold
    by a hundredfold
when I am on my own
    Please come home

I drive all night, but in my head oh
I go back, to all our little places
    I guess they’re gone
I guess it’s not an easy love
With all this hurt and all
    the wrongs we’ve counted
    But still it’s home

Don’t you know that all I need is you
To hold me close like you do
    Our house feels cold
    by a hundredfold
when I am on my own
    Please come home

    Please come home
    Please come home
    We left us cold

Don’t you know that all I need is you
To hold me close like you do
    Our house feels cold
    by a hundredfold
when I am on my own
    Please come home

    Please come home
    Please come home
    Please come home
