Picking up where it left off in the first season, this spin-off from the original series promises to bring more mystery, drama, and suspense.

This article presents a comprehensive deep dive into what fans can expect from the upcoming season, including its release date, cast, trailer, and more.

Before diving into season 2, let’s quickly recap the key events from the first season.

Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin followed a new group of liars—Imogen, Tabby, Noa, Faran, and Mouse—who were being tormented by a masked assailant known as “A”.

It was eventually revealed that “A” was seeking vengeance for the bullying and mistreatment of Angela Waters, a student from 1999 who was slut-shamed after being sexually assaulted.

In a shocking twist, the finale revealed that Angela had a twin brother, who was the person underneath the “A” costume and mask.

Their father was the high school principal, Principal Clanton. Angela’s former friends and their mothers had cruelly abandoned and ostracised her after she reported being raped, leading Angela to take her own life.

After being forced to confess their sins at a twisted “trial,” the surviving “A” killed Imogen’s rapist Chip after he got out on bail.

Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin concluded on August 18, 2022.

    The Announcement

In September 2022, HBO Max officially announced that “Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin had been renewed for a second season.

The announcement was met with overwhelming positive responses from fans, with the cast and crew expressing their excitement to continue weaving the story of the new generation of Liars.

    The New Title: Summer School

The second season was initially referred to as “Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin” Season 2.

However, in October 2022, the showrunner, Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, teased fans with a potential title change.

He finally revealed that the second season would be aptly named “Pretty Little Liars: Summer School.”

This new title immediately sparked speculation and excitement among fans, setting the stage for a thrilling summer-themed season.

The core cast from the first season, including Bailee Madison (Imogen), Chandler Kinney (Tabby), Zaria (Faran), Malia Pyles (Mouse), Maia Reficco (Noa), and Mallory Bechtel (Kelly), are all set to return for the second season.

Alex Aiono (Shawn) will also be making a comeback, along with the girls’ mothers, played by Sharon Leal, Elena Goode, Lea Salonga, and Zakiya Young.

Other cast members, like Jordan Gonzalez (Ash) and Elias Kacavas (Greg), have been promoted to series regulars.

    New Characters Joining the Cast

In addition to the returning cast, several new faces will be introduced in the second season.

Among them are Ava Capri, who will portray Noa’s former juvenile detention cellmate, Jen.

Antonio Cipriano will play the role of Johnny, a self-described player and Imogen’s co-worker at an ice cream shop.

Noah Alexander Gerry will portray Christian, a New York transplant, and Tabby’s love interest. Lastly, Loretta Ables Sayre will feature as Lola, Mouse’s concerned grandmother.

    The Plot of Season 2

Pretty Little Liars: Summer School will continue the saga of mystery and suspense that began in Original Sin.

The plot will explore more about Archie’s, Angela’s twin brother’s origin story with Angela.

The showrunners have also hinted at a potential new threat that none of the girls see coming.

The season will revolve around the Liars’ summer school experience, where they will face new challenges and threats.

Each of the Liars will embark on their personal journeys, even as they grapple with the mystery surrounding a new villain.

    The New Villain: Bloody Rose

Season 2 will introduce a new villain named Bloody Rose. Described as an “apocalyptic, terrifying” female figure by the showrunners, she will test each of the Liars, pushing them on their personal journeys.

It has also been hinted that Bloody Rose may have a connection to Archie Waters.

    Release Date

Fans will be delighted to know that the much-anticipated second season of Pretty Little Liars: Summer School is set to premiere on May 9, 2024.

The first two episodes will be dropped on the same day, and subsequent episodes will be released weekly, leading up to the finale on June 20, 2024.

    The Trailer

In April 2024, HBO Max released the official trailer for Pretty Little Liars: Summer School.

The trailer gives us a glimpse of the chilling summer that awaits the Liars, as they find themselves being hunted by a new murderer while trying to navigate through the trials and tribulations of summer school.

The upcoming season will also feature a surprise for fans of the original series.

Annabeth Gish will reprise her role as the Liars’ therapist, Dr. Sullivan, making her the first actor from the original ABC Family/Freeform series to appear in the reboot.

A Cast Bonded by Their Work and Industry Advocacy

While filming for season 2 wasn’t without its challenges, with the season being split into two parts due to the SAG and WGA strikes, the cast found solidarity and a sense of purpose in advocating for themselves and their fellow crew members.

“It’s the industry that I grew up in, and it’s been an interesting time for me, reframing a lot of what I knew about the industry,” Kinney says in an interview.

The cast participated in picketing alongside the writers and crew, showcasing their support for fair treatment within the industry.

“It was so empowering in the sense that I have been a part of the Guild since I was 12 years old,” Pyles echoes.

They all felt an immense sense of solidarity with each other and with the show’s writers and crew.

    Conclusion

With its thrilling plot, returning cast, new characters, and the promise of a chilling summer, Pretty Little Liars: Summer School is all set to make waves.

Fans of the series can look forward to an exciting season filled with mystery, suspense, romance, and drama.
