Ghanaian-American pop sensation Amaarae delivers another genre-bending triumph with Girlie-Pop!, the latest single from her highly anticipated album BLACK STAR released today via Interscope Records.

Born from a spontaneous freestyle over an acoustic guitar during a magical Brazilian evening, this track captures the euphoric sensation of romantic longing with stunning musical precision.

Girlie-Pop! begins acoustic but quickly uses a reloading gun shot, scratching turntables, and thumping Jersey club drums in its chorus.

The production, helmed by Brazilian producer Maffalda alongside Kyu Steed and others, creates a molasses-smooth sonic landscape where syncopated rhythms meet otherworldly atmospherics.

The guitar keeps things up in the air, making a perfect complement for the lyrics and performance.

Amaarae’s girlie-pop is very feminine and sensual, but never saccharine or kitschy.

Her vocals float with characteristic airiness, yet carry an undeniable sensuality that feels both intimate and cosmic.

“Pretty pop on the lips, girly pop” she sings in her signature icy tone.

This line brilliantly captures both the song’s romantic yearning and Amaarae’s broader artistic mission of genre fluidity.

“Flip positions, switching genres ’til you make it pop” works in both figurative and literal sense, describing the interplay between all these different sounds.

“I wanted to make a song that embodies the feeling of a kiss from your favorite person in the world. We all dream of finding that one person who sends us into the stars with just a smile & peck on the lips! The BLACK STAR album is all about fun and fantasy! I want Girlie-Pop to be the soundtrack for when you sit and day dream about your crush. The music video feels like the perfect expression of that.” – Amaarae

Standing in the middle of the BLACK STAR tracklist, Girlie-Pop! feels like the right length for this kind of otherworldly sensory euphoria.

Omar Jones’s accompanying music video enhances the track’s sensuality and club-ready energy.

In just over two minutes the track feels indulgent, sticky and sweet, leaving you wanting more. It’s precisely what summer 2025 demands.

    Amaarae’s Girlie-Pop! Lyrics

    [Verse 1]
I want you to take me from the top
Kiss me ’til I tell you, “Make it soft”
One of us gotta bring this to a stop
Flip positions, switching genres ’til you make it pop

    [Chorus]
Pop, pop, pop, pop, pop, pop, pop
Pretty pop on the lips, girly pop
Pop, pop, pop, pop, pop, pop, pop
Pretty pop, just a kiss, girly pop

    [Verse 2]
Replay me, I need you so
    Singles can’t release alone
I just got all rid of my hoes
Can’t turn back text from my phone, yeah
So tell me now what it’s not
Keep the P or it reads as “Op”
I like when we drop, drop, drop
    The sweet release of love
One of us gotta make it stop
One of us gotta kiss and swap
Switching genres ’til we make it pop

    [Chorus]
Pop, pop, pop, pop, pop, pop, pop
Pretty pop on the lips, girly pop
Pop, pop, pop, pop, pop, pop, pop
Pretty pop, just a kiss, girly pop
