Israeli musicians and singers are not really household names outside of Israel, but Ninet Tayeb may be the first to change this. Known as one of the most influential Israeli musicians of all time, her music has now started to be noticed in the USA where she now resides. Her latest single ‘Self Destructive Mind’ came out at the end of September and is already her most listened to track on Spotify. Her indie-pop style mixed with her middle-eastern tones are so original. Ninet says her influences include the likes of Nirvana, Joy Division and Jeff Buckley and you can see this…

Shane Guerrette is a new exciting talent based in New York. Having smashed the YouTube scene, receiving millions of views, he is now set to release his debut self-titled EP on September 7th which is produced by Bob Cuteralla (Erc Clapton, Billy Gibbons, Jeff Beck.) I am a big believer in perfecting song orders for EPs and albums and ‘Nomadic Soul’ is an incredible opener. The intro really shows off the bluesy style of guitar which is a big part of the whole EP. There is a distinct lack of bluesy/acoustic rock within the mainstream at present, but I cannot…
After seeing her name in a number of support slots in the Southampton area over the past few months I knew that Lauran Hibberd was someone I needed to check out. I finally caught her on the Hard Rock stage at the Isle of Wight Festival this year and I don’t think I was ready for how good she was going to be. It can take artists years to find a style that suits them and sounds good at the same time, but she has definitely found her own style and it sounds amazing. Her upbeat and cheery indie pop…
Arms Akimbo are having a very productive start to 2018, with their EP ‘The Wrong Kind of Dance Party’ released in February and now new single ‘Devil’ released last week, they certainly are trying to make 2018 their own. Arms Akimbo is a 4-piece from Los Angeles who started a band whilst at college after discovering a mutual love for bands like Portugal The Man, Hippo Campus, and Local Natives. ‘Devil’ is all about their relationship with Los Angeles and how they can both love and hate living there. They describe the way that celebrity status is one of the…
Having never seen Courtney Barnett before, I made the decision to endure a 4 hour round trip to see her at the O2 Academy in Bristol. This would turn out to be one of the greatest decisions of my life to date. The O2 Academy had to be at full capacity, with the bar inaccessible during the show, people standing on all 4 sets of stairs and no one really being able to move throughout. There was no way they could have fit any more in and this just added to the atmosphere. Barnett started off by playing her brand-new…
Common People was an incredible weekend. With so much on throughout the day, there was never a moment you felt bored. With the likes of Honeyblood, The Sherlocks and Elvana providing great entertainment on Saturday, I was worried Lily Allen would be underwhelming as a headliner. She was anything but, performing songs from the far reaches of her back catalogue as well as some brand-new singles, she really gave a truly incredible performance. She started her set off with her newest single ‘Higher’ which really shows the direction she is taking with her new album. A much more relaxed style intertwined with…
It was the Spring bank holiday weekend and another Common People Festival was just about to get going. With two sister festivals in Southampton and Oxford occurring on the same weekend, the lineup just swapped days with the likes of The Jacksons headlining Saturday and Sunday at Oxford and Southampton respectively. This was with the exception of a few bands including Dream Wife who were smashing it at BBC Biggest Weekend in Belfast on Saturday. I managed to get up, do some work and get to the festival ready to watch Pivotal kick-off Southampton’s main stage at 11, and they…
