Eliza Shaddad is much loved here at Neon Music. She has an exquisite style which is mellow yet full of passion, and she sings beautifully. She was born to Sudanese and Scottish parents and grew up in seven different countries. She is also descendant of a long line of progressive artists and academics dating back to the 1800s. With an MPhil in Philosophy, fluent in four languages and a graduate in Jazz from the Guildhall School, Eliza has now released her highly-anticipated debut album, ‘Future’. We have reviewed Eliza’s deut album ‘Future’ track-by-track since the songs are too good to…

Supporting Childcare on their current ‘Luckyucker’ tour, Nottingham’s own Ava Saint opened up for them in the city’s Rescue Rooms (Red Rooms) last week. They were incredible and you could be easily forgiven for thinking they were, in fact, the headliners of the show. Ava Saint is a 4 piece alternative rock group fronted Holly Taylor-Gamble, who previously sang as a solo artist under that moniker. Other members of the group include Tyler Heaney, Greg Forsyth, Jacob Davies. Dressed in an oversized neon yellow jumper and fuschia skirt, combined with a leather choker necklace and peroxide blonde pixie cut, you…
‘Man Down (King Kong Shake)’ first made an appearance as an interlude on Childcare’s recent ‘Luckyucker’ EP and now we have been treated to the full version as it is Childcare’s latest single. It is the first single from the band’s upcoming debut album, due for release early 2019. The Indie favourites use an odd choice of words for their infectious, discussion-provoking single, however, Childcare is nothing if not unconventional. They continue to push the boundaries with their tracks; this time focusing on the societal paradigms existing around masculinity, and it comes at an important time. Toxic masculinity is a sensitive issue.…
‘Lifeline’ is the 7-track debut EP from Ben Wright, released through Sound-Hub Studios. The title track is the first song to introduce you to the album and Ben’s soothing vocals can be heard amongst a distinctive folk sound. The Manchester-based singer-songwriter has released his debut EP with support from Barrington Mole on bass guitar and Dan Williams on drums. Wright says his travels around the world have influenced his music. “I try to write music in different styles to keep my tracks as fresh as possible,” he also added, when discussing his musical style. The EP also has blues influences.…
Emma Zander’s new song, ‘My Generation’ is as honest as it is poppy and infectious. “My generation knows nothing and everything.” She sings about her observations of life as a twenty-something in 2018 and she describes her songs as being “inspired by the unique time we are living in right now, and our love-hate relationship with social media”. ‘My Generation’ is tongue-in-cheek in its nature, however, Zander’s self-aware lyrics are undoubtedly relatable, especially for millennials. Emma hails from New York and is now based in LA. The singer has an ethereal voice which really compliments the beats in the song…
Eliza Shaddad is super busy right now. She has recently released singles ‘White Lines’ and ‘My Body’ and the soulful singer-songwriter has an album due out later this year. Neon Music caught up with the busy star to find out what she has been up to and what she has lined up for us in terms of exciting new releases. You’ve worked with Clean Bandit on a couple of songs. Could you tell us about how you met Jack Patterson? (Is it true you met while you were busking?) Yes, it is true – we met one day when I…
LA-based urban soul-pop group, WOLVES, have released their latest single, ‘Freaky,’ which will hook you in from the very start with its infectious beat. The trio has a unique combination of pop mixed with rock n roll and gritty urban beats. I feel that this blending of genres is risky but definitely works in their favour! WOLVES consists of Marc Avery, Sean Carney, and Rockwell Sands; with each member hailing from a different cultural background, their music allows them to express themselves in a way that is shaping pop culture as we know it. They have a distinct sound, to…
Vancouver artist Kieran Mercer has been working with producers Stephen “Koz” Kozmeniuk (Dua Lipa) and Michael Wise which has resulted in a 4-track EP called ‘Fools Gold.’ Mercer proudly acknowledges his musical influences throughout the EP, but also adds a modern, fresh take to these sounds. At only 4 tracks, Mercer still manages to convey a range of emotions with this EP and covers a variety of styles. Along with the producers, he worked hard to harness the vintage influences that he has without letting these influences prevent a modern feel to the EP. The first track, ‘Friends’ is a great pop song with some…
Around this time last year, I was thinking about what it took for a song to gain the status of ‘summer jam’ and looked at some of the best ones around. This year, I thought I would post a little update on the original post, which you can read here. Upbeat, fun, catchy tunes are still what we are after. Funnily enough, Calvin Harris is still the ‘King’ of the summer dance tracks. This summer he has collaborated with Dua Lipa to create ‘One Kiss.’ Dua Lipa has been releasing smash hit after smash hit with ‘New Rules’ and ‘IDGAF’…
Earlier this year we spoke to hot new London band, Childcare, and earlier this month they were one of the many fantastic acts that performed at The CloseUp Festival held at Hoxton Square Bar and Kitchen in London. Before they went on, I had a little chat with frontman Ed and he told me was excited to get on stage and play. “We are going to have fun,” were his exact words. Fans were excited too with one person telling me how she had flown in from New York that morning to see the band. We do like a good Childcare…
