‘Something I Said’ is the charming new single from Devon-based trio Tors. The song has a very natural feel; showcasing something deep and emotional (“You give me hope when we lie in the dark”). It’s a classic breakup song where the band is trying to make sense of a love lost (“I couldn’t say goodbye”). The lyrics are raw and personal, with a pop background and infectious melody. The band comments on their new single; “’Something I Said’ is a combination of experiences we’ve had in relationships that went wrong and you just don’t know why. That awful one-sided conversation…

‘Bright Lights’ from Manchester Rock/Rap Band Y.O.U.N.G is a brilliant new single, describing a night out where you are reluctant to go at first but your friends persuade you (“Before I know it, I’ll be out again…All my mates are here”). The track is synth-heavy and has a sonic sound, with heavy guitar breakdowns. The band has combined this with Wu-Tang Clan-inspired hype rap and a chorus which is hard to ignore. Y.O.U.N.G’s distinctive sound is relatable to young people due to the lyrics of ‘Bright Lights’. Every young person, at one time, or another has decided they didn’t want…

They don’t come as hopelessly romantic as Irish singer-songwriter Hozier, and his new album ‘Wasteland, Baby’ is a testament to that. ‘Wasteland, Baby’ starts with the mighty ‘Nina Cried Power’ featuring Mavis Staples, which addresses the human spirit in the face of adversity. The 14-track album is full of strong tracks akin to the emotive ‘Nina Cried Power’ such as ‘Movement’ which has a very catchy chorus in which he croons, “So move me baby” in those dulcet tones. There are also gentler songs, such as ‘Almost (Sweet Music)’ which grow on you. Again, these songs are catchy and Hozier…

‘Be With Me’ is a feel-good, upbeat track from Liverpool-based singer-songwriter Tall Children. Also known as Ben Hughes, ‘Be With Me’ is his second official release. The foot stomping track is guitar-laden and his vocals are melodic and playful, adding to the carefree nature of the song (“Cos I lose myself in you”). ‘Be With Me’ is catchy, jubilant, well-produced and one you won’t forget; not unlike many of the chart-topping songs of today. ISLAND’s debut album, ‘Feels Like Air’, begins with their single, ‘Ride’. It’s a great introduction to the album, which likewise is as perfect an introduction as you can get to a band. Lead singer Rollo Doherty’s gravelly voice pierces the music so that you are forced to listen to the lyrics (“Tonight, I’m awake, I know/We’re calling out like we’re never alone”). ‘The Day I Die’ is another track which makes you sit up and take notice (“Straight to heaven, or hell/ I don’t mind”). The bridge is also very catchy (“You say I’m never gonna go that way..”). Unsurprisingly,…

The Wombats played an energetic, fun-filled show at o2 Academy Birmingham as part of their current tour. There’s something special about a Wombats gig – it may be the huge smiles on the band members’ faces from the second they reach the stage or the massive hits on the 21-track setlist, but there is a ‘buzz’ in the air. The Liverpudlian trio chose ‘Cheetah Tongue’ as their first track and it is from their latest album, ‘Beautiful People Will Ruin Your Life’. They went straight into one of their older hits ‘Moving To New York’. It was a fast-paced, high…

The Vaccines, arguably Britain’s best live band, played o2 Academy Leicester this week. The sold-out show was intimate yet uproarious, with the 5-piece sauntering onto the stage to play ‘Your Love Is My Favourite Band’ to begin. Later on, he would give an anecdote as to why he felt “an affinity” to Leicester, explaining that the band played their first gig in the city and were signed to a record…
