Day Day16-year-old Day Day releases his latest track and music video ‘Paid In Full Produced by Kazza’. Chock full of astute, unapologetic lyrics combined with a subtle, melancholy trap beat ‘Paid In Full’ is about the struggles the youth have to go through to make money. “I’ve been raking it in, and I need to get paid in full, and if you ain’t tryna do the ting proper, then you just stay in school.”

Day Day grew up in Brixton, London and has been surrounded by gang violence his entire life – something he projects into his music with gritty lyrics but he also tries to show the positive side of life.

“Them man there just wanna be on IMJUSTBAIT, their passion ain’t there it’s fake.”

Find out more about this rising UK rapper in our exclusive interview:

Tell me about your new single ‘Paid In Full’
‘Paid In Full’ is a song that explains the basic struggles that kids my age go through trying to make money. Coming from the environment I’m from there are a few opportunities to get money legally and sometimes they might have to go down other avenues. I’m not promoting them but I’m just highlighting them.

What is inspiring you musically at the moment?
I get my inspiration musically from many parts. I love the US rap scene, but I also love what is going on here with UK rap, the drill movement is sick.

    Why the name Day Day?
It’s a name I’ve had since I was young, everyone around me including my family has called me that.

What do you think of the UK rap landscape and where do you think you fit in?
The UK rap scene is crazy’s moment, there is so much talent at the moment. I fit in as an artist which is lyrical and I believe there is no artist in the UK doing what I am at my age.

What would people be surprised to learn about you?
    That I’m only 16!

Is there a message or meaning you are trying to get across in your music?
There are many messages that come across in my music but the basic themes are always of a positive vibe. I don’t promote violence or illegal activities, but I talk about the aspects of how easy it is to get caught up in certain things.

The up-and-coming artist you love the most is…?
To be honest I’m actually really feeling myself lol, just watch this space!!!

What top 5 tracks have been on your playlist so far this year?
There are too many to mention but it would be a mix of UK and American artists

What’s a typical day for Day Day?
    College, work and music

If you weren’t in music what would you be doing?
Music is my life, I can’t see myself doing anything else. I was born to do this.

What song do you wish you had written and why?
The song would be something which would last a lifetime like Bob Marley’s ‘Redemption Song.’

    What’s next for Day Day?
New music! New single ‘checkmate’ coming out very soon and I’m currently working on a mixtape and then I will release my EP.
