Netflix is reviving the blood-soaked terror of Fear Street with a fresh kill list, a cutthroat prom race, and a slasher with a flair for fashion.

Fear Street: Prom Queen drops in Summer 2025, and if you thought the original trilogy was brutal, this time, the tiara comes with a body count.

Back to Shadyside: What’s Lurking at the Prom?

After Netflix’s Fear Street trilogy pulled off a three-week horror event in 2021, fans were left wondering—what’s next for Shadyside?

The post-credits scene from Part Three teased unfinished business, and in 2022, R.L. Stine confirmed more Fear Street projects were creeping forward.

Fast forward to today, and we’re heading to Shadyside High in 1988, where prom season is about to take a homicidal turn.

Prom Royalty with a Side of Murder

Director Matt Palmer (Calibre) and co-writer Donald McLeary drop us into the ferocious world of high school hierarchy, where being on the prom court might just get you killed.

The reigning “It Girls” of Shadyside High will do anything to win—until an unexpected nominee crashes the race, and one by one, contenders start disappearing.

Think classic ’80s slasher—but with bigger hair, brutal kills, and a killer with an eye for aesthetics.

    A Bloodier, Bolder Fear Street

Filmed in Toronto between March and May 2024, Fear Street: Prom Queen brings a sharper edge to the franchise.

With an R-rating for “strong bloody violence, gore, teen drug use, language, and sexual references”, this won’t be a slow burn—expect carnage early and often.

Director Palmer has already teased that the film’s masked killer isn’t just stylish—they’re downright artistic in their executions.

Meet the Prom Court (and Potential Victims)

The cast is stacked with fresh faces and horror veterans, including:

    • India Fowler (The Nevers) as Lori Granger, the outsider who may regret her nomination.
    • Suzanna Son (Red Rocket) as Megan Rogers, the queen bee with a target on her back.
    • Fina Strazza (Paper Girls) as Tiffany Falconer, another prom hopeful with a secret.
    • Ella Rubin, Ilan O’Driscoll, and Rebecca Ablack round out the cutthroat clique.
    • Ariana Greenblatt (Barbie), Lili Taylor (Outer Range), and Katherine Waterston (The End We Start From) bring seasoned depth to the ensemble.

With this mix of rising talent and genre staples, Fear Street: Prom Queen is shaping up to be the most character-driven entry yet.

A Fear Street First: Direct Book Adaptation

Unlike previous Fear Street movies, which borrowed elements from multiple books, Prom Queen is a direct adaptationof R.L. Stine’s 1992 novel of the same name.

Palmer describes the film as a love letter to the ’80s slasher era, packed with “needle drops, dancing, and a whole lot more.”

But don’t let the nostalgia fool you—this is still a Fear Street film, and that means bodies will drop.

How Deep Does the Horror Go?

Beyond the bloodshed, Palmer has hinted at a more grounded exploration of Shadyside’s struggles, with class tensions, family dynamics, and high school power plays taking centre stage.

“So many of the challenges that ’80s kids faced still totally resonate today,” he notes.

That doesn’t mean there won’t be supernatural elements—this is Shadyside, after all. But whether the killer is cursed or just plain psycho? That’s a mystery Netflix is keeping locked away… for now.

Will This Be the Bloodiest Prom Night Yet?

With Netflix banking on Fear Street as a major horror franchise, expectations are sky-high.

Will Prom Queen deliver the franchise’s most intense kills? Will it stick closer to the book than its predecessors? And most importantly—who’s making it out alive?

One thing’s for sure: this is one prom you don’t want to skip.
