Netflix has brought golf’s most unconventional player back to the green.

Nearly 30 years after Happy Gilmore first grabbed his hockey stick and showed the PGA Tour a thing or two about driving distance, Adam Sandler is lacing up those Timberlands for another round.

When Does Happy Gilmore 2 Come Out? Netflix Release Date Confirmed

Netflix will exclusively stream Happy Gilmore 2 sometime in 2025.

Whilst an exact date hasn’t been announced, the film’s first trailer has already started making waves, suggesting production is well underway for the anticipated release.

Happy Gilmore 2 Trailer: First Look and Notable Moments

The first trailer takes an unexpectedly heartfelt approach. Whilst Sandler returns in his signature Bruins jersey, the preview leans more towards emotional resonance than pure comedy.

Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce makes a memorable appearance as a waiter, delivering a line that captures the trailer’s tone perfectly: “It’s good to have you back, Mr Gilmore.”

The final moments show a charged encounter between Happy and his old rival, Shooter McGavin.

Adam Sandler Happy Gilmore 2 Cast: Returning Favourites and New Faces

The film reunites several key players from the original whilst introducing some intriguing new talent.

Adam Sandler returns as Happy Gilmore, with Christopher McDonald reprising his role as the ever-pompous Shooter McGavin.

Julie Bowen also returns as Virginia Venit, maintaining that crucial connection to the original film.

New cast members include Bad Bunny (Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio), Travis Kelce, along with Conor Sherry, Ethan Cutowsky, Maxwell Jacob Friedman, and Philip Fine Schneider.

Each addition suggests the film’s aiming to bridge multiple generations of comedy and sports culture.

Behind the Camera: The Creative Team

Original Happy Gilmore co-writer Tim Herlihy returns to pen the screenplay, ensuring continuity with the first film’s voice.

Whilst Dennis Dugan, who directed the original, moves to an executive producer role, Murder Mystery director Kyle Newacheck steps in to direct.

Original producers Jack Giarraputo and Robert Simonds are also back, maintaining that connection to the 1996 classic.

    What’s Changed for Happy Gilmore?

The teaser hints at a film that acknowledges the considerable time that’s passed since Happy first stormed the PGA Tour.

Back in September, Sandler posted a social media tease featuring the same Bruins jersey seen in the trailer, starting the buzz amongst fans.

Characters from the original Happy Gilmore have even made surprise appearances in other Sandler films like Jack and Jill, Little Nicky, and Hubie Halloween, maintaining the character’s legacy over the years.

The film appears to balance nostalgia with a fresh perspective on Happy’s story.

Whilst the exact plot remains under wraps, the trailer suggests a more mature approach to the character while maintaining the elements that made the original a comedy classic.

For fans wondering if Happy’s signature unorthodox style remains intact – don’t worry.

Whilst the tone might have evolved, early footage suggests our favourite hockey player-turned-golfer hasn’t completely abandoned the techniques that made him famous.

The film looks set to offer both a nostalgic return to the green and a fresh take on Happy’s unique approach to golf.

As we await more details about the 2025 release, one thing’s clear – Happy Gilmore 2 aims to respect its predecessor whilst carving out its own identity in a very different era of both golf and comedy.
