Kingfishr’s name has been on the lips of those who keep an eye on Ireland’s indie scene for a while now.

With over 35 million streams under their belt and a series of performances on The Independent’s live music sessions, they’ve carved a place for themselves by blending their folk heritage with cinematic grandeur.

From their early days in Limerick, crafting songs in between engineering studies, Eddie, McGoo, and Fitz have built a catalogue defined by atmospheric soundscapes, textured with banjo twangs and guitar riffs that echo through mountains.

But with their latest release, I Cried, I Wept,  Kingfishr steps into something even bigger—a punchy anthem soaked in raw emotion and sonic intensity.

This song feels different from what we’ve heard before. Gone are the quieter, introspective ballads.

I Cried, I Wept feels like a shout into the void, powered by guitar-led melodies that spark like an engine ready to roar.

The energy is palpable, as though you’re right there in the room with the trio, witnessing them hit that perfect balance of chaos and control.

The song is born from tension, with the band describing it as a reflection of burying parts of yourself to survive, only to question whether that sacrifice was worth it in the end.

Lyrically, I Cried, I Wept cuts deep, with lines that speak to regret and the weight of missed opportunities.

Eddie’s voice moves from quiet desperation to something more primal as he sings, “I cried, I wept, I lost my mind, I held my tongue ’til the closing time.”

There’s a sense of futility running through the track—an acknowledgement that despite fighting tooth and nail, you might never get the closure or resolution you need.

And yet, the chorus offers no easy catharsis. It hits like a wave that refuses to break.

Underneath the vocals, the instrumentation swells, with the guitar leading the charge.

It’s not a song that allows you to sit still. The driving rhythm pushes you forward, the bassline pulsing like a heartbeat under the layers of sound.

The song’s structure mirrors the emotional whirlwind it describes—moments of restraint followed by explosive outbursts.

The banjo, an instrument that usually whispers of tradition and nostalgia, here adds a bite that keeps you on edge.

Thematically, I Cried, I Wept deals with internal battles, the kind that leave scars invisible to the eye.

There’s a moment in the song where Eddie sings, “I swore to God I would not yield, I broke my back in the open field,” and it’s hard not to picture the physical toll of carrying a burden for too long.

The song pulses with exhaustion and defiance, capturing the push and pull between surrender and persistence.

Kingfishr delivers a track that is equal parts intimate and explosive, melancholic and defiant.

It’s a song alive with contradiction, expressing exhaustion but also a fierce drive to keep pushing forward, even when the future remains uncertain.

I Cried, I Wept may be born from quiet reflection, but it swells into something far more powerful, carrying listeners along in its emotional surge.

Kingfishr I Cried, I Wept Lyrics

    Chorus:
    I cried, I wept
    I lost my mind
    I held my tongue
    ‘Til the closing time
And who’s to blame for all this mess?
    Well, it’s only me
    For the worst I’m blessed

But I don’t have time to change, my love
And all my thoughts of what this could have been
    Will rain down from above
And I don’t have strength to fight, my dear…

That I’ve wasted all my glory days
That’s all I have to fear

    Chorus:
    I cried, I wept
    I lost my mind
    I held my tongue
    ‘Til the closing time
And who’s to blame for all this mess?
    Well, it’s only me
    For the worst I’m blessed

I swore to God I would not yield
I broke my back in thе open field
But when thеy came, they came for blood
I offered my neck like a good boy should

I don’t have words to use, my friend
When the ghosts of all this ever was
Well, they’re waiting in the end
And I don’t want stories told in time
Saying that we stood upon the brink of this
But we failed to cross the line

    Chorus:
    I cried, I wept
    I lost my mind
    I held my tongue
    ‘Til the closing time
And who’s to blame for all this mess?
    Well, it’s only me
    For the worst I’m blessed
