Naked Next Door is back with a corker of a debut EP ‘Stuck In My Mind’. Filled with 5 memorable tracks which shine a light on the band’s versatility, it is the perfect introduction to a British indie 4-piece who have a very bright future ahead of them.
The band has been busy with a recent signing to Honest Records, a headline performance at Camden Assembly which took place in support of War Child charity and the launch of their new EP.
We caught up with the band before their EP release and they discuss one of the singles ‘Where Do I go’.
Tell me about your recent single and video release?
‘Where Do I Go’ is the lead single off our brand new EP. As soon as we wrote the song we knew it deserved a place on the EP. We’d been deciding on songs for weeks and when that song came up we instantly knew it had to go on! The video was a lot of fun to film. We shot in a place called Sheerness on a beach in the middle of nowhere. We really wanted to get a message across in the video and the narrative side of the video really helped portray that. We’re extremely happy with the outcome.
How did your band name come about?
The band name came about a few years ago when our lead singer Euan was in a class at college. He was half paying attention and he looked through one of those frosted windows you can barely see through and thought “they could easily be naked next door and we’d have no idea.”
Is it important for you to have that element of human connection in the songs that fans can empathise with?
I think it’s very important to have that in songs. Songs can be an outlet and can mean different things to different people.
If you write lyrics about the stresses of daily life then you’re bound to have people experiencing the same things. Through listening to songs you can almost identify with it and make it your own.
What have been the biggest highlights of the past year?
The biggest highlights would have to be signing our record deal with Honest Records, getting to record in London’s famous Metropolis Studios and putting out our music for everyone to hear.
Who or what is influencing you at the moment?
As a collective, our influences come from everywhere. Each of us has mutual influences, but then also individually. At the moment we find ourselves listening to a lot of artists like Sam Fender and Biffy Clyro.
Is there anyone you would love to work with?
We definitely wouldn’t turn down working with Catfish and the Bottlemen, as they are a huge inspiration to us!
What are the challenges of being an emerging band in the UK in this day and age?
Getting people to listen to your music and trying to get onto good gigs with bigger artists.
How much time do you spend on social media per day?
I think being in a band you have to stay connected on your socials. We try to post most days about upcoming gigs, so, almost every day.
If you could go back in time to an era of music, what would you choose?
I think the 90’s. We love so many bands from that era.
Dream venues/festivals to perform at?
Reading Festival would be an incredible experience to perform at and I think The Roundhouse in London looks like it’d also be a lot of fun.
What’s next for Naked Next Door?
At the moment we’re playing as many gigs as possible and pushing our EP out for everyone to hear!
