The Jurassic Park franchise has long leaned on its legacy characters, but Jurassic World Rebirth is taking a sharp detour.

For the first time in the series, not a single familiar face returns. No Dr. Grant, no Malcolm one-liners, no Claire and Owen trying to control raptors with hand gestures.

Instead, Gareth Edwards, known for his masterful take on Godzilla(2014), is steering this prehistoric ship into uncharted waters—both literally and figuratively.

Unlike Jurassic World Dominion, which felt like a “greatest hits” reunion tour, Jurassic World Rebirth clears the slate.

The story picks up five years after Dominion, in a world where dinosaurs are struggling to survive in hostile environments.

The plot follows Zora Bennett (Scarlett Johansson), a covert operative, as she teams up with paleontologist Dr. Henry Loomis (Jonathan Bailey) and mercenary leader Duncan Kincaid (Mahershala Ali) to infiltrate an island that once served as a research facility for the original Jurassic Park.

Their mission? Retrieve the DNA of the three largest prehistoric species in existence—a discovery that could unlock medical breakthroughs for humankind.

But, of course, things spiral out of control. The island isn’t just home to dinosaurs; it’s a breeding ground for failed experiments that never made it past InGen’s whiteboards.

Expect some gnarly, genetically warped creatures alongside fan-favourite species.

Super Bowl Trailer: Fans React to a Darker Jurassic World

The Jurassic World Rebirth Super Bowl teaser has already sparked major conversation online.

While some fans are excited about the horror-driven approach and grittier visuals, others are lamenting the absence of legacy characters.

Social media reactions have ranged from pure excitement to skepticism, with debates raging over whether the franchise should embrace a new era or stick to its nostalgic roots.

Watch the Super Bowl teaser for Jurassic World Rebirth below:

The teaser showcased breathtaking action sequences, including a high-stakes river chase with a Tyrannosaurus rex, ominous aerial shots of Quetzalcoatlus, and eerie glimpses of mutated creatures stalking their prey.

Scarlett Johansson’s Zora Bennett was also highlighted, with scenes showing her in survival mode against the prehistoric threats.

What’s a Jurassic movie without an all-star dinosaur lineup? Jurassic World Rebirth brings back classic heavyweights like the Tyrannosaurus rex, Velociraptors, and the ever-terrifying Dilophosaurus (yes, the venom-spitting fiends are back). But the real stars are the newcomers:

    • Titanosaurus – The biggest sauropod the franchise has ever seen, featuring a design inspired by classic kaiju.
    • Quetzalcoatlus – The largest pterosaur to ever take flight, now redesigned with a more monstrous look.
    • Spinosaurus Pack – The controversial giant from Jurassic Park 3 is back, and this time, there are three of them.
    • A New Mosasaur Variant – Not quite the beast from Jurassic World, this new marine menace has a shark-like tail and a more aggressive nature.
    • The “D-Rex” (Mutated Hybrid) – The Dinosaur Hybrid Fans Have Wanted for 10 Years – Jurassic World Rebirth introduces a monstrous, four-legged abomination rumored to be an early failed attempt at creating the T-Rex. This hybrid has been the subject of fan speculation for years, that this creature taps into what fans have been hoping for—a return to the horror elements and nightmarish unpredictability of early franchise designs.

    A Darker, Grittier Jurassic World

If Jurassic World Dominion was a haphazard adventure film, Jurassic World Rebirth is a survival thriller.

The trailers have showcased a more atmospheric, horror-driven approach, something reminiscent of the first Jurassic Park.

The tension is high, the stakes are personal, and the dinosaurs aren’t just obstacles—they’re apex predators reclaiming their world.

Edwards’ love for practical effects and gritty realism is evident in the film’s cinematography.

Unlike the overly polished look of Fallen Kingdom and Dominion, this film has a raw, almost documentary-like feel, with 35mm film used to bring out the texture and detail.

Can a Jurassic Film Survive Without Nostalgia?

Cutting ties with legacy characters is a risk, but it might be exactly what the franchise needs.

While the internet has already begun speculating about possible cameos (because Jurassic Park fans can’t resist hoping for a Goldblum appearance), Rebirth appears committed to forging its own identity.

With a July 2, 2025, release date, Jurassic World Rebirth will be the real test of whether this franchise can evolve or if it’s doomed to extinction. Either way, the dinosaurs aren’t done with us yet.
