In a move that thrilled fans, country music superstar Morgan Wallen surprised listeners with the release of his Abbey Road Sessions.

Recorded during his December 2023 UK visit, the project dropped on the one-year anniversary of Morgan Wallen’s record-breaking album, One Thing At A Time.

The EP offers raw, stripped-back interpretations of album favourites, a surprise cover, and the debut of Lies, Lies, Lies, a deeply personal fan favourite first teased during a private Nashville writers’ round in early 2024.

The Haunting Melody of “Lies, Lies, Lies”

Lies Lies Lies (Abbey Road Sessions) opens with a brooding electric guitar riff, setting the stage for Wallen’s charismatic drawl as he delves into the emotional turmoil of a broken heart.

The twinkling acoustic guitar adds a layer of tenderness, contrasting with the stormy atmosphere created by the electric guitar.

Wallen’s distinctive voice carries the weight of the song’s emotional depth, showcasing his vocal dexterity and ability to convey complex emotions through his delivery, ranging from hushed vulnerability to a gravelly determination that reflects the turmoil expressed in the lyrics of Lies, Lies, Lies.

His performance on the turbulent hook is palpable, as he laments the relentless downward spiral that heartbreak has sent him into.

Unravelling the Meaning: Lies, Lies, Lies Lyrics

The lyrics of Lies, Lies, Lies take listeners on a captivating journey through the aftermath of a painful breakup.

Morgan Wallen opens with a series of affirmations, seemingly assuring himself and others that he’s doing okay.

However, as the song progresses, it becomes clear that these statements are mere Lies, Lies, Lies he tells himself to cope with the overwhelming heartache.

In the candid chorus, Wallen confesses that he’s still a “fool for you,” addressing his ex-lover and admitting that there’s “Nothin’ I wouldn’t do for you.”

He draws a poignant parallel between “habits and hard heartbreaks,” acknowledging the struggle to break free from both.

As the song reaches its emotional climax, Wallen rebukes himself for believing the fantasy that he can win back his ex, equating this belief to the falsities he initially professed.

The vulnerability and rawness of his lyrics resonate deeply, inviting listeners to empathise with the universal experience of heartbreak and the lies we tell ourselves to cope.

The Significance of “Lies, Lies, Lies (Abbey Road Sessions)”

The release of Lies, Lies, Lies (Abbey Road Sessions) holds particular significance for Morgan Wallen and his dedicated fan base.

Recorded at the legendary Abbey Road Studios, where iconic artists like The Beatles and Adele have crafted their masterpieces, the Abbey Road Sessions not only serve as a sonic treat for fans but also highlight how far Wallen has come from being a controversial newcomer to an artist embraced by a global audience.

Wallen’s decision to include a cover of Nothing But Thieves’ “Graveyard Whistling” on the Abbey Road Sessions further showcases his versatility and willingness to explore new sonic territories.

This unexpected inclusion not only pays homage to the UK’s musical heritage but also hints at Wallen’s increasing infusion of diverse genres into his sound.

    Contextualising the Release

It’s worth noting that Lies, Lies, Lies arrives amidst a wave of other unreleased songs teased by Wallen, including “I Had Some Help” and “I Guess,” suggesting a thematically linked exploration of heartbreak for his upcoming album.

This stands in stark contrast to the defiant, almost vengeful approach to breakups we’ve heard in earlier hits (“Wasted on You”).

This shift could signal a more introspective and emotionally mature direction for the artist.

Where to find “Lies, Lies, Lies”

While the official studio release of Lies, Lies, Lies is still highly anticipated, you can currently hear the Abbey Road Sessions version of the song on YouTube.

Morgan Wallen Lies Lies Lies (Abbey Road Sessions) Lyrics

    Verse 1
I don’t come down with the Sun
I won’t hate myself when the mornin’ comes
No thoughts of your body runnin’ through my head
No bottle of bourbon beside the bed, ’cause

    Verse 2
It wasn’t no thing to give you up
I never reach for you in another touch
Don’t ever think about you with him
And girl, tonight I won’t call again and again
    Ain’t nothin’ but

    Chorus
    Lies, lies, lies
Look into my eyes, eyes, eyes
I’m still a fool for you
Nothin’ I wouldn’t do for you
    Lies, lies, lies
Girl, I’m on a downhill dive
Habits and hard heartbreaks are hard to break
So I just tell the same old lies, liеs, lies
Yeah, baby, I can try, try, try

    Verse 3
To act like I don’t givе a damn, but I do
Bet you’re missin’ me bad as I miss you
    Snowballs to a phone call
    Soundin’ somethin’ stupid
    Baby, ’cause the truth is
The ninety proof is tellin’ me

    Chorus
    Lies, lies, lies
Look into my eyes, eyes, eyes
I’m still a fool for you
Nothin’ I wouldn’t do for you
    Lies, lies, lies
Girl, I’m on a downhill dive
Habits and hard heartbreaks are hard to break
So I just tell the same old lies, lies, lyin’ to myself
Why, why, why in the hell
Do I keep sayin’, “I can get you back”?
That’s about as honest as sayin’ that

    Pre-Chorus
I don’t come down with the Sun
I won’t hate myself when the mornin’ comes
    Ain’t nothin’ but

    Chorus
    Lies, lies, lies
Look into my eyes, eyes, eyes
I’m still a fool for you
Nothin’ I wouldn’t do for you
    Lies, lies, lies
Girl, I’m on a downhill dive
Habits and hard heartbreaks are hard to break
So I just tell the same old lies, lies, lies
