A Twist-Filled Harlan Coben Adaptation with a British Twist

Netflix’s Missing You isn’t just another mystery thriller—it’s a masterclass (just kidding, we don’t do grandiose language here) in suspense.

Adapted from Harlan Coben’s 2014 novel, this five-episode series brings a tangled web of lies, old flames, and dark conspiracies to life.

With a fresh UK setting, a stellar cast, and enough twists to make your head spin, Missing You cements Coben’s place as the king of compulsive Netflix dramas.

But is it worth the binge? Let’s dig in.

Missing You Plot: A Blast from the Past—With Secrets

Detective Kat Donovan (Rosalind Eleazar) has spent over a decade haunted by two things: her father’s murder and her fiancé Josh (Ashley Walters) vanishing without a trace.

Just as she starts swiping through a dating app, there he is—Josh, looking suspiciously present for someone who ghosted her 11 years ago.

Determined to find out what happened, Kat dives back into old wounds, but this isn’t just about a missing fiancé.

There’s a deeper mystery lurking—one that ties into her father’s death, a shady crime syndicate, and a tangled network of secrets.

The Cast of Missing You: Where You’ve Seen Them Before

Netflix has assembled an all-star cast for this adaptation, with familiar faces from British dramas and past Harlan Coben projects.

    • Rosalind Eleazar (Slow Horses, Harlots) as Kat Donovan, a detective with a complicated past and even more complicated present.
    • Ashley Walters (Top Boy, Bulletproof) as Josh Buchanan, Kat’s long-lost fiancé with some explaining to do.
    • Richard Armitage (Fool Me Once, The Stranger) as Ellis Stagger, Kat’s boss and a man with more layers than he lets on.
    • Lenny Henry (Three Little Birds, Rings of Power) as Clint Donovan, Kat’s father, whose murder is at the heart of the show’s mystery.
    • Steve Pemberton (Inside No. 9, Happy Valley) as Titus, a character as ominous as his name suggests.
    • James Nesbitt (Stay Close, Bloodlands) as Calligan, a crime boss with deep connections.

What Sets Missing You Apart from Other Coben Adaptations?

If you’ve seen Stay Close, The Stranger, or Fool Me Once, you might think you know what to expect from Missing You. But this time, Coben shakes things up.

Instead of a U.S. setting, the action unfolds in Manchester and the North West of England, giving the story a distinctively British noir feel.

The show also leans into its emotional weight, with Kat’s personal struggles taking centre stage alongside the mystery.

Rosalind Eleazar delivers a powerhouse performance, bringing vulnerability and grit to a character caught between her past and present.

    Ending Explained: The Final Twist

Without diving into heavy spoilers, let’s just say Missing You doesn’t hand you easy answers.

The final revelations expose betrayals, long-hidden truths, and a conspiracy that runs deeper than Kat ever expected.

Josh’s disappearance? More complicated than a simple cold-feet scenario. Kat’s father’s murder? Not what it seemed.

And just when you think you’ve figured it all out, the last scene throws in a lingering, ambiguous moment that will have viewers debating what it really means.

    Is Missing You Worth Watching?

If you love mystery thrillers packed with tension, emotional depth, and plot twists, Missing You is a solid pick.

While it might not be Coben’s most unpredictable story, it delivers everything you’d want from a Netflix mystery—secrets, suspense, and a protagonist who refuses to let sleeping ghosts lie.

So, should you add Missing You to your watchlist? If you like a slow burn that builds into an intense payoff, then yes. Just maybe don’t expect to sleep much once you hit play.
