If you are looking for some high-energy, empowering, and catchy afrobeats songs to spice up your playlist, then you need to check out Princess Wonda. She is a Nigerian afro-fusion artist who has been making waves in the music industry with her unique and versatile sound. She blends genres such as Afro Pop, Afro Drill, Amapiano, Hip-Hop, and more, creating an unforgettable mix of dynamic beats and melodies that will make you want to dance and sing along.

Princess Wonda, whose real name is Princess Funmilola Fisher, was born in London but moved to Nigeria at age three, where she stayed for eight years. She grew up listening to a rich variety of music from both cultures, which influenced her musical style and identity. She started her career performing in popular school plays such as Oliver Twist and High School Musical during her days at Crown Woods Academy. She also did some modelling for Ghanaian jewellery designers and fashion brands.

She was mentored by Lawrence Johnson, vocal coach and arranger, who has worked with Disney on Aladdin’s soundtracks, as her voice coach to improve her vocal ability. She also worked for some time for MOBO Award-winning rapper Dappy as a session singer and performed with Grammy Award winner Israel Houghton. In 2010, she was featured in a charity song aired on BET to help raise funds for Haiti earthquake victims.

In 2020, Princess Wonda announced and released her debut single titled City Boys, which was a hit among fans of afro love and afro international music. She also released a music video for the song, which showcased her vibrant personality and style. She followed up with more singles, such as Bank Stops, Bust My Mind, and Dirty Swagger, which were all well-received by critics and listeners alike.

In 2021, she released her debut album, Fantasy Fair, an eclectic body of work pulling inspiration from music across Africa. The album featured thirteen tracks that showcased her versatility and talent in blending genres such as Afropop, Afro Drill, Amapiano, hip-hop, R&B, and more. The album was highly energetic; however, a combination of fast and slow-tempo songs appropriate for all occasions. Some tracks that stood out were iSurrender, Bad Girl Original, Dangerous Love, and Fantasy Fair.

The album also reflected her state of mind and emotions at different points in her life. For example, Dirty Swagger was her clap back to the haters who tried to dim her light or disturb her peace.

In a Neon Music exclusive interview with Princess Wonda, she said, “This is because, in a world where I am becoming more visible, the good has come with the bad. For example, some could tweet about playing my music on repeat, and a minute later, someone else tells me I’m “fat” or don’t deserve to call myself “princess of afro-fusion”. Dirty Swagger was my clap back, so the bottom line is, Do not let anyone dim your light disturb your peace/energy.”

Princess Wonda also said that she makes music so that people can visualise themselves in a place where they can learn more about themselves and fantasise about who and what they want to be.

She commented, “If you are looking for music to immerse yourself in—music that makes you feel encouraged, empowered, and, of course, entertained—I’m the woman for the job.”

In 2022, Princess Wonda embarked on a world tour to promote her album and connect with her fans across different countries. She toured Nigeria, Ghana, the USA, and Switzerland, where she headlined the Afro Summer Jam Festival. The festival was a celebration of African culture and diversity, and Princess Wonda wowed the crowd of over 4,000 people with her fantastic live band performance. She performed some of her hit singles, such as Dirty Swagger and iSurrender, as well as some of the top afrobeats songs from other artists.

She also sold out the Omeara London venue in October 2022, where she put on an incredible show called The Fantasy Fair Experience. The show was sponsored and organised by Dreamers Management, which is also her management team and hosted by radio host Sougerian Queen. Princess Wonda had opening acts with various styles, from Afropop to R&B, Hip-Hop, and bashment. The show was a success and a testament to her hard work and talent.

In 2023, Princess Wonda released a new single called My Body, a sensual song that inspires confidence and body positivity.

The song features an infectious melody with catchy lyrics such as:
The money and love and harmony, Make you gimme nothing more,
E Tori my body melody, You dey do me something more,
Kelele for your matter, I be your woman I be your mummy gan,
Am I down for your love felele felele oh my baby no worry gan
I need you now, You don free my, My stamina
You do me kayamata, I need you now, You don free my
My stamina, You do me kayamata

The song was well-received by her fans and critics alike, who praised her for her versatility and creativity. The song is available for streaming and download on various platforms such as Spotify, Apple Music, and more.

Princess Wonda is one of the best Afro-fusion artists on the scene right now, and she is not slowing down anytime soon. She has proven herself as a multifaceted independent charting artist with global influence and a loyal fan base. She has also overcome the challenges of being an independent artist during a pandemic and has shown a new level of perseverance, creativity, and consistency.

She is the self-proclaimed Queen of Afro-Fusion, and she deserves the title. She has conquered the world with her music and is ready to take on more.

If you want to join Princess Wonda on her musical journey, you can listen to her songs on various platforms, download her album Fantasy Fair, buy her merchandise, join her fan club, book her for your events, or get your tour tickets on her official website.
