Just listening to this new release What About Us from Ember is a beautiful emotional rollercoaster. As the song begins, we are greeted with a stunning piano melody that evokes hope and joy in the listener. Shortly after, we are drawn in by the husky, soft and sweet vocals of our two Yorkshire vocalists Becky Bowe and Jason Odle. Even though their two voices blend so seamlessly on the track; the duo Ember was formed entirely by accident.
Whilst listening to a song by Becky in a studio session; Jason decided to add his lyrics onto the track and in no time at all the pair had formed Ember – as if it just made sense. Jason is a producer and Becky is a vocalist, the two voices have significant differences, but they connect so exquisitely on the track.
What About Us is a song about two people – connecting, wondering about what the future may hold for them. They are combining their worlds; “we are two worlds in one, me and you” and hoping their love prevails above all hardships. It is ultimately a ballad which takes a stance from one side of the relationship; exploring how one member of the relationship must try to stop the whole thing from falling apart.
Regarding their new single, What About Us, the duo said; “We wanted to create something emotional but without complicating the track. Repeating lyrics hammering home the simple question; are we really thinking about our relationship? Are we forgetting who we were? We really enjoyed writing and recording this one – with stripped back production but enough to give it depth. We really hope people like it, it’s one of our favourites!”
Ember have been writing and recording for the last two years which is very exciting for us as listeners as it means lots of captivating musical material must be in the pipeline. The duo said; “It’s been a while, but we wanted to wait until we had everything ready, artwork, videos and all our new tracks and beyond! We’ve been really busy behind the scenes but we’re extremely excited to share this chapter with everyone!”
Rumour has it that new tracks have already been mastered and are nearly ready for release this coming summer so Ember will be sharing more wonderful musical content very soon! A music video will also accompany each track. This duo is one to watch for sure.
