Swedish-American artist Wombino blends introspective soul with alternative hip-hop flair in close my eyes, a track that captures the raw pulse of 2020’s lockdown era, bottling up collective anxieties into a haunting experience that resonates even stronger today.

The production wraps you in warm guitar strings while the bass creeps under your skin like that hollow feeling at 2 AM.

“I’ve been sitting behind this steering wheel / Making bad decisions / Feeling trapped within my means” – these opening lines set the tone for what follows.

Speaking of late nights – this track simmers with bars about pride, pain, and greed, served over a production that’s smoother than your favourite bartender’s top-shelf pour.

The hook? It’s not trying to be your next TikTok challenge; “Too much pride I got / Too much pain I got / Too much greed I got / Should I leave or not” sits in your brain like that one friend who crashes on your couch but actually adds something to the vibe.

What’s wild is how relevant this joint feels now, despite being penned during peak COVID times.

“Can’t go fixing all these issues / If these problems they ain’t mine” – Wombino spits about division, violence, and mental health with the kind of honesty that makes you check your own pulse.

The verses hit like therapy sessions you didn’t know you needed.

Listen to this when you need music that understands the weight of existence but doesn’t leave you drowning in it.

Wombino – close my eyes Lyrics

    Too much pride I got
    Too much pain I got
    Too much greed I got
    Should I leave or not
    Too much pride I got
    Too much pain I got
    Too much greed I got
    Do you believe in God

I’ve been sitting behind this steering wheel
    Making bad decisions
    Feeling trapped within my means
    All up in my feelings
    When you’re gripping grain
It’s hard to think this world is full of prisons
This lack of light makes it hard to shine
    Like rainbows in a prism
I’m just fearing our division man
When I’m turning on the news
    Hearing how shots popped off
    Not wondering who’s killed who
    Yo what’s our end game
    It’s insane thinking how a
Bullet to the brain won’t end pain
    It’s such a shame
    Might pop a vein
    Who wants the blame
It’s all the same to me

    It’s been a fucking week
The stress has got me beat
    Yea it’s hot as hell
    I might as well
Cop a pill or two to sleep
Don’t tell me what I need
You can judge me if you please yea
    I don’t care- don’t mind the stares
    I just want release
    I’m too scared to die
But the way this world’s been going
    I’m prepared no lie
Got no superman coming in to save our lives
Every time I go to bed wanna close my eyes

    Too much pride I got
    Too much pain I got
    Too much greed I got
    Should I leave or not
    Too much pride I got
    Too much pain I got
    Too much greed I got
    Do you believe in God

    Too much pride I got
    Too much pain I got
    Too much greed I got
    Should I leave or not
    Too much pride I got
    Too much pain I got
    Too much greed I got
    Do you believe in God

    Can you relate
Homie you swear on your grave
    Nobody coming to save us
    Everyone’s working an angle
You gotta find it then you don’t mind it
If you got leverage to use
Then you got a gun you can shoot
    Talk about venomous youth
    Sweet as vermouth
As soon as you got something to prove
    They checking the proof
    They checking the time
    Tik-tok slip your mind
    I got sick inside
Can’t go fixing all these issues
If these problems they ain’t mine
Gotta kick this shit and get sober
    Unnatural chills in October
She got bills to pay- you can hit my line
Just wipe your nose when it’s over

    Too much pride I got
    Too much pain I got
    Too much greed I got
    Should I leave or not
    Too much pride I got
    Too much pain I got
    Too much greed I got
    Do you believe in God

    Too much pride I got
    Too much pain I got
    Too much greed I got
    Should I leave or not
    Too much pride I got
    Too much pain I got
    Too much greed I got
    Do you believe in God?
